Final Blog

With the project and presentation finally done, a weight seems to have left my shoulders. Although a good learning curb in terms of identifying the needs of senior citizens, I feel what was put forward in the project brief and what was ultimately expected from us at presentation time were two different matters. Emphasis was placed on design, with us not being architects, and less on adding value to projects which is more our mandate.

However, with that done dusted all that remains is the exam. It doesn't help being told that everything we've covered from all lectures is important and examinable but alas we have no choice but to learn it.

Its been a good semester with the highlight being a poorly attended guest lecture from a man who spoke sense in 45 minutes than anyone else I've heard at UCT did in a whole term.

And so undergrad draws to end, its been fun though.

Cheers

Group Project

Group 4 was assigned to CPOA as our organisation. They were very forthcoming in providing us with information and setting up meetings.

The project itself was interesting and I have learnt a lot about how Life Right schemes operate.

With regards to the tasks we had to complete I found that application of value management was particularly tricky. I was not certain if what I had written was pertinnet or even correct.

I also found that the creation of a GANTT chart was a problem. Not once have we been taught to construct one of these and so expecting a thorough and detailed one in our project, i found, was slightly unrealistic.

Nonetheless the project taught me a lot about retirement facilities, the needs of retirees and how the CPOA operate.

I am glad its done and out of the way and can now focus on trying to figure out what content to learn for the exam.

Project Nearing Completion

Pretty much completed the draft financials for the Eventide development. Just a matter of editing and compiling the final product. Its been a different experience having to provide financials for a development where the objective is not profit driven but rather just to self-sustain.
